DPMM FC 1 Rosmin Kamis 32
Terengganu 1 Ashaari Shamsuddin 47

Terengganu came away from Bandar Seri Begawan with a precious point after holding the home side DPMM FC to a 1-1 draw. The result meant the Turtles remain on fourth place in the Super League after leader Kedah scored two late goals during the match against Johor FC to triumph 3-1.

The east coast side were missing suspended skipper Marzuki Yusof and Brazillian striker Gleisson Freire who was serbing the last of his two match suspension. Goalkeeper Mohd Sharbinee Allawee stayed behind in Kuala Terengganu due to an illness. Terengganu Coach Yunus Alif gave youngster Zairee Hafizie his senior debut between the posts while Durahim Jamaluddin came in to partner Brazillian defender Fabio Flor at the back.

The crowd at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium had seen current leaders Kedah lost their match 2-0 here a few weeks ago and coach Yunus was keen to avoid another defeat after losing their last away match against the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in Selayang. As expected, the home side was the more dominant with Rosmin Kamis combining well with Brazillian, Tiago Dos Santos to prise open the Terengganu defence.

In the 22nd minute they thought they did just that. Fortunately for Terengganu Tiago’s effort was ruled out due to offside. Ten minutes later they did go ahead albeit controversially. Tiago broke free on the right and after getting past Shahrul Ezrain he delivered a perfect ball for Rosmin to hit home. The striker’s attempt hit the bar and bounced to the ground before Zairee gathered the ball into his arms.

The referee assistant did not signal for goal but the referee blew his whistle indicating the ball had indeed crossed the line. Despite vehement protest from Terengganu players and officials the man in the middle stuck with his decision and the home side had the lead they really wanted.

The second half saw Terengganu equalising almost immediately after the restart. With most DPMM FC players’ mind still in the dressing room, Ashaari Shamsuddin made the most of a quick counter-attack to level the score. Both teams tried to find the winning goal but in the end Yunus and his Brunie counterpart Iordan Stoykov had to be content with a point each.
