It is going to be another interesting match-up in the Malaysian Super League when second placed Perlis entertain the visit of Terengganu which currently a place below them on goal difference. Both teams registered impressive victories during their last outing. Terengganu ended treble winners Kedah unbeaten record with a 3-1 victory at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, while Perlis came back from a goal down against the Royal Malaysian Police to win their match 3-2 at the MPS Stadium.

Meanwhile not far away from where the above match, another top of the table clash will take place at the same time where champions Kedah entertain league leaders Selangor at the Darul Aman Stadium. A Kedah win would definitely see a new leader at the top of the Super League.

The Turtles’ results away from home so far has been far from impressive. They have taken the early lead at both Johor FC and Penang E & O but failure to defend that lead resulted in just a single point from those two matches. They have a more difficult challenge at the 20,000 capacity Utama Stadium in Kangar as the home side already registered a 5-0 thumping of Pahang in their last outing there.

Coach Abdul Rahman Mohamad is no stranger to Terengganu, having led his home state team to the Malaysia Cup final in 1998 where they lost to Perak on penalties. This is his second stint with the Northern Lions after taking over from previous coach Norizan Bakar.

Terengganu coach Yunus Alif must be wary of the threat posed by Zambian striker, Phillimon Chepita who already scored twice this season in the Super League. One thing for sure is the danger would not come from Chepita alone as Mohd Nizaruddin Yusof and Rudie Ramlie also had found the back of the net as many times as the Zambian this season. Other goalscorers for Perlis this season are midfielders Yusri Che Lah and Ridzuan Othman.

After scoring twice against Kedah last week from dead-ball situations, midfielder Zairo Anwar Zailani would certainly be looking forward to repeat the same feat again. The two goals he scored on Sunday brought his tally of the season to three, becoming joint-topscorer for Terengganu with Brazilian defender Fabio Flor.

Terengganu fans are looking forward to more goals coming from Brazilian striker Gleisson Freire who broke his duck with the equaliser against Kedah. His towering presence would certainly caused concerns to the Perlis back-line and other players such as compatriot Jocian Bento Dos Anjos, Zairo and Mohd Nor farhan Mohamad must be alert to any second ball coming from him.

The are some concerns about goalkeeper Mohd Sharbinee Allawee’s performance during the Kedah match. He must improve his communication with the defenders in-front of him in order to ensure his goal would not be breached. With Chepita is very strong in the air, Sharbinee maintain high level of concentration throughout the match and ensure he gets his timing right on every occasion to nip the danger in the bud.

Terengganu manager, Sheikh Ahmad Tajuddin had stated after the match against Kedah that he is proud with his charges who showed great commitment and concentration even after taking the lead against the treble winners. However league football is all about consistency, thus if the Turtles could produce the same high level of football everytime they took the pitch there should be no stopping them from winning their first Super League title this season.

There is no better place to start than the Utama Stadium on Saturday.
